A YEAR-LONG STORY

This is how Maria learned 2,000 German words in a year.

Ten minutes a day. No camps, no marathons, no shame. Just the right word at the right moment, every single day, until German stopped feeling foreign.

THE STORY

From “Hallo” to ordering wine in Berlin — one chapter at a time.

CHAPTER ONEMonth 1

The first 50 words feel impossible.

Maria opens the app on a Tuesday evening. Five words. Three minutes. She forgets two by morning — but the algorithm already knew she would. They come back at lunch.

“I thought I was bad at languages. Turns out I just needed someone to remind me at the right moment.”

CHAPTER TWOMonth 3

The streak becomes a ritual.

Coffee, app, ten minutes. By March, Maria has 320 words rotating through the seven stages of memory. She skips a Sunday. The flame stays lit (she had a recovery token).

“It’s the first habit I’ve kept past week three. The streak is doing something my willpower never could.”

CHAPTER THREEMonth 6

She reads a menu in Vienna without translating in her head.

Halfway through the year, the words start clicking into sentences. Maria stops translating internally — the German just arrives. She joins the Silver league and beats her flatmate in a 60-second duel.

“The first time I dreamt in German, I woke up laughing.”

CHAPTER FOURMonth 12

Two thousand words later, she orders wine in Berlin.

One year in, Maria has 2,034 words in long-term memory — not “studied,” but known. She tested at B2. She didn’t grind, didn’t burn out, didn’t quit. She just showed up for ten minutes every day, with a streak she never wanted to break.

“A year ago I couldn’t say my own name in German. Last week I argued with a waiter about the wine list. In German. And won.”

FAQ

Frequently asked.

What is spaced repetition?+
Spaced repetition: a word comes back right before you would forget it. There are seven stages, with intervals of 1, 3, 7, 14, 30, 60 and 120 days. Clear all seven and the word counts as learned.
How much time does it take?+
10 minutes a day is a sensible rhythm: enough for new words and for the reviews that came due today. The exact pace depends on the language and on how regularly you come back.
Can I upload my own words?+
Yes. Import CSV or add manually. Your words sit alongside the curated decks.
Does it work offline?+
Yes. The app works offline: pages and already downloaded audio are cached. That works on any plan, the free one included.
Which languages are supported?+
The interface is in 18 languages. There are 60 you can learn: German, English, Spanish, French, Italian, Japanese, Korean and more.
